About Us
Hello and Welcome to Troops 1444 (Boys) and 3444 (Girls), sponsored by the Parents of Wasatch Front Scouting!
We have very active Troops for both boys and girls, with over 50 registered scouts and 10 adult leaders. The Troops are run by the boys and girls themselves, with support from the adult leaders. Scouts “cross over” from Webelos near the end of 5th Grade (10-11 years old). (Prior involvement in cub scouts is not required, however.) They then progress through the ranks from Scout to Eagle, learning practical skills, filling leadership roles, and performing service along the way.
We typically have weekly meetings on Tuesday evenings, where we participate in learning activities and work on Merit Badges, with one night per month reserved for working on Rank Advancements. We go camping or another outdoor activity about once per month, and attend a weeklong camp once per year where scouts can sharpen their outdoor skills.
Note to New Members and their Families
We know our meetings are a busy time and there is a lot going on. Here are a few notes to get you started, but please know that you can speak with any of our Troop Leadership at any time if you have questions. Intermittently we hold Parent Meetings to update parents about upcoming events, yearly campouts, fees, etc. Please try to attend these meetings so we can answer any of your questions.
Program Overview
Our Troop is using Scout-led meeting disciplines. Our Senior Patrol Leadership plans and facilitates the meetings under the supervision of the adult leadership, but the scouts are left to their own devices to communicate, implement, and carry through all their ideas. Most of the time they are successful, but sometimes things don’t go as planned. We work hard to sustain an environment where our troop is a safe place to fail. That’s how our scouts learn. Come talk with one of the leaders or parents and we’ll answer any questions you have. The best way for your scout to be successful is for you to help them understand what their responsibilities are and then let them try.
Senior Patrol Leader elections are held twice a year in April and October. Scouts interested in holding a position can self-nominate and the scouts will hold a blind election. The Patrol Leaders Council (PLC) will then be trained by the Scout Masters and will then do planning for the next three to six months. The PLC usually meets a couple times during the six-month term to keep planning on track.
Uniforms
We honor the Scouting tradition of the full uniform to level-set the environment and to foster a sense of belonging. We ask that your Scout come in full uniform each week and for travel to all activities, including camping, unless otherwise instructed. Full uniform is defined as BSA approved field (aka Class A) uniform shirt with appropriate insignia, pants, belt, socks, neckerchief and slide and scout handbook. Hats are optional but should be BSA approved. We use the black neckerchief with red trim. We have custom patches for our unit number (so you only have to sew on one patch, not four). They may be purchased for $6.
You can buy a Uniform at the Scout Shop in Orem (directions below).
Full Class A Uniform includes
- Scout shirt
- Scout pants
- Scout belt
- Scout socks
- Black neckerchief with red trim
- Neckerchief slide
- Hat (Optional)
- Crossroads of the West Council Patch
- Troop Numbers (1444 for Boys or 3444 for Girls)

Once you join the Troop and pay dues, we provide each scout with one Class B T-Shirt (red for boys, purple for girls) to wear on campouts, outings, activities, service projects, etc. Additional shirts may be purchased through our Troop at a nominal cost (e.g. it is nice to have 3-4 shirts to wear to Weeklong Camp in the summer).

Communications
At the end of each troop meeting, the Troops will “circle up” and do announcements. Encourage your scouts to listen carefully and then ask them what they heard and learned in circle-up.
In addition to regular parent meetings, we send a weekly newsletter via email each Sunday morning. Out Scoutmasters will ensure that you are put on the distribution list – the email address used will be the one provided on your Scout’s registration form.
Once you and your Scout are registered, you will be invited to join ScoutBook.com. This is the official Scouting America platform that we use to RSVP for upcoming events, view our Troop calendars, message leaders, etc. It is an integral part of our Troop communications.
We have a private Facebook page as well, Wasatch Front Scouting Troops 1444 and 3444, which is a good channel for last minute communications. We will gladly send you an invite to join the group. Just let us know if you want the invite.
Finally, we also heavily use GroupMe. Click here to request to be added to our GroupMe group.
Meetings
We meet at Corner Canyon Church (12883 S 1300 E, Draper, UT 84020) every Tuesday evening, unless otherwise stated (occasionally we meet elsewhere for specific activities). Meetings run from 6:45-8:30, weekly. Scouts are asked to wear full Class A uniforms to meetings, unless otherwise specified.
We offer camping opportunities the third weekend of every month, except for December. During July we attend a weeklong camp outside of Utah (those dates vary).
Adult Volunteers
Our Troops are volunteer-run and we are always looking for additional help. We have many positions within our troop, with varying degrees of involvement. Please plan to participate in your child’s scouting experience.
The success of our Troops depends on adult volunteers who work behind the scenes to make it all happen. Some of our adult volunteers have children in the Troops, while some do not. Either way, your involvement is welcome. Support by Scoutmasters, Assistant Scoutmasters, and Troop Committee members result in strong boy- and girl-led Troops.
Advancement:
- Read about our Troop’s philosophy on Advancement and how to progress through the Ranks and earn Merit Badges here.
- Find Merit Badge Counselors here.
Registration, Fees, and Dues: Registration is done online through the Scouting America site. It costs $115 per year to join Scouting. All of those funds go to the National Scouting America organization or the local Council, but not our Pack.
After you sign up online and are added to our Troop, our Treasurer will send you an invoice for our Troop Dues, which are $249/year per Scout, billed in September. If you join part way through the year, you Dues may be prorated. Troop Dues cover all basic program fees, including awards, as well us contributing to upkeep of equipment for the Troop. Other fees and individual expenses, like camping and activity fees as well as Weeklong Camp fees, will be billed to your family scout account and you will receive a statement along with information on how to pay. If you need to make payment arrangements, please contact our Treasurer.
We collect all Dues via Zelle, Check (made out to Parents of Wasatch Front Scouting), Venmo, or Square (Credit Card). Payment options are available here.

Scouting America Health Form (parts A & B required for regular weekend campouts and outdoor activities, and A, B, & C required for Weeklong Camp)
https://filestore.scouting.org/filestore/HealthSafety/pdf/680-001_ABC.pdf
Forms A & B travel with leaders on every campout and activity all year long. Form C is required for any event longer than 72 hours or high adventure activities. All Scouts and Leaders need to fill out medical forms A, B & C annually before weeklong camp, and we keep these forms for reference for the rest of the year. Form C requires a physical and physician’s signature, so please plan accordingly. We collect these in June every year (preparing for weeklong)
